Technology Log

Note: Sorry Lee, I forgot to post this. (this photo has nothing to do with technology, but I had a turtle riding in my dream the other night so I just put this photo in :) )

In tracking the amount of times a utilize different forms of technology I realized that I am dependent on technology way too much. I also realize that this is the way society has become and that there is no choice other then to use it. I use my cell phone a lot as my connection to the world. I use it to check my e-mail, my face book, and text people. I can do anything on my blackberry. I also realize that if I miss the news then I am able to read the news online. I can also get the stories from the union leader online so I don't have to pay for the newspaper. This reminds me of the trouble that the Boston Globe is facing with lay offs and people losing their pay. I believe this is due to the technological era. I guess I am addicted to technology like many people, and I wonder what would happen if it failed for one day. I think people would not know what to do. Technology also creates a stressful work place. Everybody wants things done instantaneously; answer e-mails right away, fax documents, computer documentation, we are just dependent. My other thought is that technology is so much in every one's lives that "big brother" could track our every move, especially tracking ATMs, Credit Cards, IP addresses, etc. etc. I'm not paranoid, I just don't like the idea of the government being able to find out everything on one person if they wanted to, conversely, it is a useful way to catch criminals.

Trying out Movie Maker

I have been trying to complete this video of pictures of my sons. I am learning to use Movie Maker. This was kind of fun. The Ann Murray song playing is the song that I sang to them when they came home from the hospital.

Bloggin

I think the whole idea of creating a blog is fantastic. Anyone can create their own platform and speak to any issue they want, political, educational, etc. etc. Anyone can get out their ideas, thoughts feelings, and possible find people to connect with. I can see how this could be used as a malicious tool as well. Myself, I have one follower, who happens to be my professor, I know she is not going to cyber stalk me. I know my classmates have access to my blog as well and may be inclined to give it a cursory glace. When I narsasistically goggled my name, I found out that one could find my blog if they randomly goggled my name. I realize the odds of any person besides myself goggling my name is about 0, however, this is an illustration of how cyberstalking could occur. If I am able to speak freely then I am certain at some point I would give up some identifying information that would make it possible for someone to find me, if they wanted to. I will take my chances, because in the end, it is fun to just express yourself!

Time Without A Cell Phone

I woke up Monday morning to find out that my cell phone was not working. I panicked, how could I go without my morning routine of text messages or checking my blackberry for facebook updates? I figured I would go to the ATT store on my lunch and purchase a new battery, thinking that was the problem. I get to the store and try a new battery, didn't work. The clerk told me that since my phone was purchased within the past year I could have a new one sent to me. I got the number and called as soon as I was back in my office. The standard delivery was 3-5 business days, but ohhh no, I needed my phone a.s.a.p. Instead of the free delivery, I payed $15 dollars to have my phone sent to me by 3p.m. the next day. That time without my phone was horrible and all I could do was think about having a working phone. My point is, I cannot live without my blackberry, I need to feel connected, what I once thought was an "electronic leash" is now my existence. This is sad, but this is how I think many people feel. I am addicted to technology.
